Improve Your Buffalo Furnace Performance With These Simple Heating Register Tips

When was the Last Time You Thought About Your Buffalo Home’s Heating Registers?

Probably never, right? Well, that’s one thing that needs to change. And the heating experts at Roy’s Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling are here to help you make that change.

Why is it so important to think about your heating registers? Well, they are what allow warm air to enter the living areas of your home after it’s been conditioned by the furnace, and without them all the work your furnace does would be for nothing.

Here are few things that you should know in order to get the most out of them:

  • Blocking or covering up even just one of your heating registers can significantly diminish the amount of air flow that enters the living areas of your home.  Despite the way they may look, you can’t try to hide them. By covering up your heating registers with furniture, appliances, rugs or anything else, you will end up forcing your furnace to work overtime. Putting this kind of strain on your furnace will cause it to run longer and harder only to produce the same amount of heat. However, you will be paying far more in energy costs. You also don’t want the stress of dealing with a breakdown in the middle of a cold, winter night.
  • Registers have slats that can typically be adjusted, opened or closed. To ensure you get the best performance out of your furnace, make sure that your register’s slats are as open as possible so warm air can easily travel through and enter your home.  Unfortunately, it’s very easy to accidentally adjust or close register slats simply by walking over or brushing against them. Just be cautious of this fact, and you’ll be golden!

These may seem obvious, but they are common mistakes homeowners make. We are just looking out for you, because we don’t want you to be cold this winter! But, if you’ve done everything right and you are still shivering at night, it’s time to give our heating experts at Roy’s a call!
