What Does a Buzzing Circuit Breaker Mean?

If you hear a buzzing sound coming from your electrical panel, don’t ignore it.

Here are four possible reasons you may be hearing a buzzing sound from your electrical panel.

1. Loose wires

2. An overloaded circuit

If you hear buzzing coming from your electrical panel, start by looking for signs of a potential problem—but do not touch anything inside the panel.

Look for warning signs such as scorch marks, a burning plastic smell, visible damage, or a panel or breaker that feels unusually hot from the outside.
